Wooler Common

After the torrential rain in recent weeks, over 340 competitors had to battle the typically tough underfoot conditions in the Cheviot Hills to complete the Trail Outlaws Wooler Marathon and Half Marathon. Thankfully though the weather was very favourable for a long day in the hills.

While competing in the half marathon, a trail runner fell and sustained a lower leg injury. Unable to weight bear, assistance from Mountain Rescue was requested. After an initial assessment, the runner’s injury was immobilised before an attempt was made support them off the hill to the nearest 4×4 response vehicle. Unfortunately a supported ‘walk off’ was not possible and a stretcher party was called for. A relatively short stretcher carry then ensued before the injured runner was transferred to one of our vehicles for the drive back to the event centre.

We wish the runner well for a full and swift recovery.

The incident involved 8 Team members for 1 hour 40 minutes.
