Incident Type: Rescue

Northumbria Police requested the support of Mountain Rescue for two walkers on the St Cuthbert’s Way near to Wooler. One of the walkers had collapsed and they required assistance. The walkers’ location was confirmed using PhoneFind/SARLOC technology, before the volunteer members from North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were called out. Two 4×4 response vehicles were also dispatched.

Two Team members local to the incident made their way onto the hill and liaised with the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust Community Paramedic, who was already on scene. An evacuation plan was agreed and our response vehicle – callsign Curlew Foxtrot – managed to access the incident site. The collapsed walker was then transported down to the nearest road, along with the Paramedic, before being transferred to a double crewed ambulance. Other Team members escorted the second walker off the hill and at this point those members who were still travelling in case a stretcher evacuation was required were stood down,

A very unfortunate end to a walk and we wish both walkers well.

The incident involved 14 Team members for 3 hours.
