Incident Type: Alert
On Saturday afternoon, at 15:37, Police Scotland activated the Border Search & Rescue Unit (BSARU) for a lone walker who had suffered an ankle injury on Windy Rig, making them unable to bear weight. The walker was located via PhoneFind, which placed them 500m north of the border to the west of Windy Gyle.
BSARU alerted North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and our team at 16:15 hrs. At the time, we were already aware of the situation. After discussion with BSARU, it was determined that they could probably reach the walker by vehicle, so whilst we had response vehicles in the Wooler area, we decided to monitor the situation.
By 17:30 hrs, BSARU had reached the injured walker, providing on-scene care and transporting them safely to Cocklawfoot. Our teams were officially stood down at 18:05 hrs.
We’re grateful this incident concluded smoothly and wish the walker a swift recovery.
Remember to plan for changing terrain and conditions, and always carry a means to call for help in remote areas.
