Incident Type: Rescue
At 13:59hrs ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were requested by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with an injured walker on Weetwood Moor near Wooler.
A full team call-out for both teams was initiated shortly after, with local team members making their way to the scene and one of our team vehicles deploying from base. On arrival, one of our members was able to meet with the ambulance crew and ensure the casualty was well wrapped up in a blizzard bag and shelter to protect them from the conditions.
A team vehicle was driven across the moor to the casualty, allowing equipment to be brought directly to scene. Once enough team members were in place, a stretcher evacuation was prepared using a wheel to aid progress over the terrain. With a suitable route identified, the evacuation commenced promptly.
The casualty was transferred safely to the waiting ambulance after a short carry over open moorland, with all equipment then recovered and the vehicle repacked before team members stood down.
Thanks to our colleagues in the ambulance service for the effective joint working, and to our volunteers who responded quickly to support this incident.
The incident involved 8 mountain rescue volunteers for a total of 2 hours and 43 minutes
