Incident Type: Rescue

Before the dust had settled on the announcement of the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, our teams were called out to assist a rider who had been thrown from their horse near Wark.
The incident occurred in rough, muddy terrain approximately 400m from the nearest access road, making it challenging for the ambulance service to reach the casualty in a vehicle.

After a brief discussion with the NEAS Critical Dispatcher, North of Tyne Mountain Mountain Rescue Team and our team mobilised with three response vehicles on blue lights and several members within minutes of the activation. Our volunteers who arrived first on scene confirmed that a local farmer with their Polaris vehicle was assisting the Community Paramedic to extricate the horse rider to the road.

Once on scene, our team members worked alongside the NEAS Community Paramedic to ensure the rider was transferred safely and efficiently to the waiting ambulance for further medical care.

A big thank you to everyone involved in this multi-agency response, including the local farmer, whose assistance was invaluable in navigating the difficult conditions underfoot.

The incident involved Team 20 members for 1 hour 45 minutes.
