Incident Type: Alert
Mountain Rescue received an activation from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) on Sunday morning for support in reaching a fire in a remote location of The Cheviots. No sooner than our duty controller and wildfire lead had responded to the activation and drivers had been allocated for our 4×4 response vehicles, Fire Control confirmed our assistance was no longer required and the Teams could stand down.
A group of walkers had discovered the remnants of a campfire which had spread to the surrounding peat, presenting a significant risk to the Uswayford Forest area. Thankfully NFRS reached the site before the fire spread further.
Sadly the campfire was one of three that were discovered in the Coquetdale on Sunday morning. Please read the advice below to help prevent wildfires and protect Northumberland.
The incident involved 6 Team members for 10 minutes.
