Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) contacted our Mountain Rescue duty controller to request whether we had swiftwater trained resources available to assist with a multiagency search in the Berwick area. Having confirmed availability of resources, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were requested to deploy to the Tweedmouth area. A search of the river and the sea was being conducted by the agencies on scene.

As one of our incident controllers was arriving in Berwick and shortly after response vehicles had been deployed on blue lights, it was confirmed that the missing person was safe and well, and not in the water. At this point all the agencies involved stood down.

The multiagency response involved Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Police, North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, HM Coastguard Northumberland and RNLI. The Borders Water Rescue Team was also on standby.
A good outcome all round.

The incident involved 14 Team members for 1 hour 10 minutes.
