Tranwell Woods, near Morpeth

On Thursday afternoon, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were called out by Northumbria Police to assist with the search for a high risk missing person in the Tranwell Woods area of Northumberland.

With light fading and limited information as to the missing persons whereabouts, 34 team members from both teams swiftly responded. In addition to having a large number of search groups, the teams also deployed two air scenting search dogs, a thermal imaging drone and the use of hand held thermal imaging units. This search saw the first operational use of AI assisted mapping software to ‘search’ the imagery recorded by the drone.

As the teams were standing down, the Police confirmed their enquiries had led to the missing person being located well outside of the search area.

The incident involved 34 team members for 5 hours 40 minutes.
