Incident Type: Rescue
At Sunday lunchtime, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with a casualty in Thrunton Woods who had sustained a lower leg injury and was showing signs of being seriously unwell.
Given the urgency, a swift response was initiated. Fortunately, we had some of our team members training nearby at Pegswood who were rapidly mobilised to the scene travelling on blue lights, and an immediate team callout was issued.
Thankfully, once access to the forest had been provided by Mountain Rescue, NEAS paramedics and a double crewed ambulance were able to reach the casualty in their vehicles, and the situation was brought under control without the need for a stretcher carry.
The teams were stood down shortly after arriving on scene.
We wish the walker well for a full and swift recovery.
The incident involved 20 Team members for 1 hours 30 minutes.
