On the evening of 4 January a 73 year old male was reported missing after he failed to return home following a trip to the vets in Powburn. An extensive overnight search was launched by Northumbria Police which extended into the following day.

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves worked alongside the Police Search Adviser to devise and implement a search plan focused on the extensive network of rural roads between the missing person’s last known point and his home. The Teams also provided local knowledge, logistical support and a 4x4 vehicle to assist with the search.

Thankfully through the concerted effort of everyone involved - the missing person’s family and friends, the local community and all the emergency services - he was located earlier this morning by an off-duty fire fighter. The male’s vehicle had left the road near Debdon Lake, the previous evening. He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A very positive outcome for all concerned.
