North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves responded to a very unfortunate incident on Wednesday morning. As Storm Jocelyn passed through our area, an elderly gentleman was blown over by the wind whilst out walking alongside the River Coquet on the edge of Thropton.

The North East Ambulance Service Community Paramedic requested the support of Mountain Rescue to assist with the evacuation. Local Team members and our 4×4 response vehicle in Rothbury were immediately deployed. Once on scene they worked with the Community Paramedic and double crewed ambulance to carefully evacuate the gentleman over the footbridge and along the riverside footpath to the lane where there was vehicle access.

By 11.45hrs the gentleman was safely on board the ambulance and we wish him well for a full and swift recovery.

The incident involved 5 Team members for 1 hour 30 minutes. A further 11 members were on standby until the incident was resolved.
