A cyclo-cross rider competing in an event sustained a potentially serious injury when they came off their bike. North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were requested to assist the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust crew evacuate the casualty to the Ambulance.
Two 4×4 vehicles and members were swiftly deployed from a training exercise while other members travelled from home direct to the scene. As our resources arrived at the RVP, 35 minutes after the initial request, we were notified by the Ambulance Service that the crew had managed with assistance to evacuate the casualty.
At this point the Mountain Rescue resources were stood down and most of our volunteer members returned to the training.
We wish the rider well for a full and swift recovery.
The incident involved 13 Team members for 1.5 hours.
