The Street, Cheviot Hills

Later the same day, two walkers had to be rescued by North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves when they became benighted in the Cheviot Hills. The couple were unable to get down off the hill before dark and called the Police as the weather conditions worsened.

The location information from the 999 call indicated the couple were on The Street near to Swineside Law. This was later confirmed by PhoneFind, our location tool.

A limited response was initiated with a 4×4 response vehicle from Rothbury and local members heading up into Upper Coquetdale. Shortly after 17.00hrs, with winds increasing and the rain becoming heavier, the walkers were located by a hill party before being walked off down the old drover’s road to Slime Foot and the safety of the valley.

Thankfully, all ended well.

The incident involved 9 Team members for 3 hour 40 minutes.
