Incident Type: Rescue
On a very warm summer’s day two walkers were rescued in the Cheviot Hills on Sunday afternoon. The two walkers had succumbed to the heat on the ridge leading up to The Schil. A 999 call was rightly made to the Police and Mountain Rescue was duly requested.
Mountain Rescue resources from both sides of the border were swiftly deployed – Border Search and Rescue Unit (BSARU) approaching from Sourhope in the Bowmont Water valley and ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team from Mounthooly in the College Valley. The College Valley Estate very kindly offered their UTV to assist with transporting our volunteers and vital equipment onto the hill.
On arrival at the incident site, the two walkers were medically assessed and once we were comfortable they had recovered sufficiently enough to walk a short distance to one of the BSARU Landrovers, the evacuation commenced down to Sourhope.
We would especially like to thank the two walkers who provided assistance prior to our arrival and to College Valley Estate for their willingness, as ever, to assist.
A great cross-border response leading to a successful outcome for all concerned.
The incident involved 9 Team members for 4 hours 40 minutes. A further 10 members from BSARU were involved.
