Two mountain bikers became lost and then separated in deteriorating weather conditions in The Cheviots on Sunday evening. The initial 999 call went to Police Scotland earlier in the evening before the incident was handed over to Northumbria Police. Mountain Rescue’s assistance was then requested.
Unfortunately, very limited information on the biker’s starting point, intended route and finish point was available. With the only location information mentioned being ‘The Cheviots’ and the ‘Pennine Way’ we needed something more definitive to enable a response. PhoneFind texts were sent to the mobile phones of both lost bikers but due to the poor reception in the hills these weren’t delivered.
Thankfully at 20.10hrs a further 999 call was made by one of the bikers indicating he had located his friend and they were both back at their vehicle. A good outcome all round.
The incident involved 5 Team members for 25 minutes.
