Sycamore Gap

The Mountain Rescue Teams were alerted by a member of staff at The Sill that a female walker had fallen near to Sycamore Gap, sustaining an arm injury. The party with the female were advised how to request Mountain Rescue if the Teams were required.

However, due to poor mobile reception our Duty Controller was unable to confirm the party’s intentions although we were aware they were trying to self rescue. Until it was confirmed the party and the injured female had made it to the road head, our 4x4 response vehicles travelled towards Hadrian’s Wall in case our assistance was required.

Thankfully after half an hour, we were able to confirm that the party had self rescued and the injured walker was on their way to hospital.

A good outcome and a well intentioned call from the member of staff at The Sill. Team members on returning to our Rothbury base did get to enjoy a stunning sunset before the next incident.

The incident involved 5 Team members for 45 minutes.
