Incident Type: Rescue

A walker had a very unfortunate slip, sustaining a painful lower leg injury, whilst out on Hadrian’s Wall for the first time. Thankfully a couple of other walkers went to her aid and made a 999 call to the emergency services.

The North East Ambulance Service immediately requested Mountain Rescue’s support. Shortly after the Community Paramedic, the first Mountain Rescue volunteer arrived on scene and confirmed a short but rough stretcher carry would be required.

As soon as one of our 4×4 response vehicles and additional personnel arrived, the Bell stretcher was prepared and the injured walker packaged in a warm casualty bag on the stretcher ready for the evacuation. The walker was then carefully carried the short distance down to Curlew Echo for the off-road drive to Peel Bothy and the hand over to ambulance crew by midday.

We wish the injured walker well for a full and swift recovery and would like to thank the other walkers who stayed with the injured walker until our arrival.

The incident involved 10 Team members for 3 hours 18 minutes.
