A member of a walking party enjoying a walk to St Cuthbert’s Cave, unfortunately slipped on ice and sustained an upper leg injury. Unable to weight bear a call was made to the emergency services for assistance. The North East Ambulance Service activated Mountain Rescue and resources, including two 4×4 response vehicles on blue lights, were swiftly mobilised . Team members local to the incident arrived at the RVP at the same time as the Community Paramedic and crewed Ambulance.

Sarloc Rescue was successfully used to doubly confirm the location of the injured walker and Mountain Rescue and NEAS personnel proceeded to the location to provide medical assistance. Once stabilised, the injured party was carried to the ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

The rest of the walking group then made the most of the stunning but cold conditions by finishing their walk, thankfully without further incident. They were able to enjoy the beautiful views of the Cheviot Hills cloaked in snow.

We wish the injured walker well for a full and swift recovery.
