North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were activated by the Northumbria Police in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday. Initial information indicated that a female was lost in the forest to the south west of Stannersburn near to Kielder Water.

With limited information available, initially two Mountain Rescue vehicles and five Team members were deployed to rendezvous with the Police at Stannersburn. Whilst members travelled to the RVP, our tactical command continued to liaise with the Police Inspector and Search Adviser involved in the incident to agree a search strategy and plan.

On arriving at the RVP, our Toyota Hilux callsign Curlew Echo with two members on board was tasked to search the forest tracks to the south west of Stannersburn. Shortly after the National Police Air Service helicopter had spotted a person walking along a forest track, the missing female was located by Curlew Echo at 05.15 hours.

The female was transported back to the RV before being handed over to the Police. A good, swift outcome.

The incident involved 6 Team members for 3 hours 30 minutes.
