A contractor working near to Simonburn fell awkwardly in a field and sustained a leg injury. Once on scene the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust crew requested Mountain Rescue to assist with the patient’s evacuation.
Two 4×4 response vehicles were immediately deployed by North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves and our volunteer members were called out to RV at a farm near Simonburn. The first members on scene assessed the requirements and as soon as the Key Mobile, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team’s Landrover Defender, arrived at the RVP, vital rescue equipment was carried to the incident site.
After treatment provided by the NEAS crew, the patient was evacuated on a Bell stretcher by Mountain Rescue personnel across a couple of fields to the farm. The patient was then transferred to the crewed Ambulance for onward transport to hospital.
The incident involved 11 Team members for 2 hours 10 minutes.
