A male in his mid-50s was reported missing by his family on the previous Sunday after he’d left home early in the morning. As concerned grew for his wellbeing, Northumbria Police requested Mountain Rescue’s support to search routes and small areas of woodland and water on the fringes of Shiremoor and towards Holywell Dene.

Search groups and two Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England teams were deployed throughout the day. As with most lowland searches, great care was required whilst searching areas of heavy undergrowth including thorns and brambles, as well as rubbish and debris.

Following a long, tiring day of searching, the Teams stood down as darkness fell and Police enquiries continued.

The incident involved 30 members for 11 hours.
