In the first of a busy 24 hours for the two Mountain Rescue Teams, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service requested our assistance for a large wildfire in the Hindhope Linn area near Rochester. At the time of the activation, the information received suggested the fire was spreading rapidly.

A blue light response vehicle with two members and one of our drones was swiftly deployed while the Mountain Rescue tactical commander travelled directly to the RVP.

The drone was used to overfly the area to identify whether there were any further hotspots which might present a further risk to the fire service personnel and to the woodland in the surrounding area. By this stage the fire, which spread to nearby forestry, was thankfully under control. The fire crews from Bellingham, Hexham, Pegswood and Rothbury, supported by the Scottish Fire Service, had done a sterling job at bringing the fire under control.

The incident involved 4 Team members for 3 hours 45 minutes.
