River Tyne, Ovingham

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves deployed alongside other emergency services to an incident in the River Tyne near to Ovingham on Sunday evening. Searches for a missing teenager, involving specialist water trained and equipped personnel, were conducted by a multiagency response involving Northumbria Police, National Police Air Service, Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, HM Coastguard and Mountain Rescue.

Sadly the body of the teenager was found in the water later on Sunday evening. A tragic end to the incident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the teenager at this incredibly difficult time.

The incident involved 18 Team members for 5 hours 30 minutes.
