Incident Type: Search
On Monday evening ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were activated by Northumbria Police for a high risk missing person in the Holystone area of North Tyneside.
One of our duty controllers responded to the activation and following discussions with the Initial Missing Person Search Adviser (IMPSA) – a new role within the Police – it was agreed the Teams would deploy.
Ten search groups, a search dog team and a drone team were deployed and despite everyone’s best efforts searching in the dark on Monday night nothing was found.
Following overnight investigative work by the Police and alongside the detailed debriefs collated from all the search groups on Monday night, information enabled a very focused search to be undertaken on Tuesday.
Very sadly, in the afternoon, the body of the missing person was found by Mountain Rescue.
Our thoughts are with their family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.
The incident involved 41 Team members for 6 hours 34 minutes on day one and 16 members for 7 hours 56 minutes on day two.
