Penshaw

Northumbria Police requested Mountain Rescue’s support for a search in the Penshaw area on Saturday night. A male in his mid-70s had been reported missing from home earlier in the day and there was increasing concern for his welfare.

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves deployed to conduct searches along routes into, and areas in, the Herrington Country Park. Our volunteer members, alongside a Police Dog handler, searched wooded areas in the Park through the night before standing down at 05.00hrs.

Thankfully just after midday on Sunday it was confirmed that the missing person had been located well outside of the areas searched. A very good outcome for all concerned, especially his family.

The incident involved 13 Team members for 6 hours 30 minutes.
