Incident Type: Rescue

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were activated by Northumbria Police for a walker who had collapsed at the top of the steep stone steps which climb up alongside Peel Crag on Hadrian’s Wall. The walker was with their family at the time.

The walker was assessed and treated by Mountain Rescue medics – including a Doctor and Paramedic – before being slowly ‘walked off’ the hill. Once on the access track to the south of Hadrian’s Wall, the walker was transported in one of our 4×4 response vehicles to the road and transferred to the North East Ambulance Service’s double crewed ambulance.

We would like to thank the Northumberland National Park staff who cared for the walker until our arrival. The Teams also worked alongside the Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team whose Polaris vehicle was ultimately not required.

We wish the walker well for a full and swift recovery.

The incident involved 22 Team members for 2 hours 45 minutes. A further 10 members remained on standby until the incident was concluded.
