North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were requested to assist the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust yesterday afternoon. A male had collapsed on the riverside walk alongside the Otter Burn and support was required to evacuate the patient from the difficult to access location.

A limited response was initiated by our duty controller with members local to the incident in Otterburn travelling. One blue light response vehicle was also deployed from Rothbury.

On arrival in Otterburn, a member of the public directed us to the closest access point to the riverside walk. As soon as enough personnel were on scene, our volunteer members and the Ambulance crew carried the stretcher 150-200m along the riverside path and then up and down some steps to the crewed Ambulance.

We wish the gentleman well for his recovery.

A swift and relatively straightforward incident to start the year.

The incident involved 11 Team members for 1 hour 30 minutes.
