Last night Northumbria Police requested the support of Mountain Rescue for a search in Newcastle. A vulnerable male in his late 70s was last seen earlier in the evening and there was concern for his well-being. North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves immediately deployed with our tactical command being co-located remotely with the Police Silver Commander and Search Adviser and our operational command and RV being established in the centre of Newcastle.

As search groups were being deployed to search areas in and around Leazes Park, the Town Moor and Exhibition Park, it was confirmed the male had been located safe and well outside of the immediate area. A really positive and swift outcome for all concerned bringing great relief to the male’s family.

The Teams stood down at this point and returned to their respective bases to decontaminated vehicles.

The incident involved 28 Team members for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
