Incident Type: Search
Northumbria Police requested Mountain Rescue’s support for a search for a vulnerable person in the Monkton area, near to Hebburn in South Tyneside. Following 999 calls made by the individual earlier in the evening, the Police had not been able to locate them despite an aerial search being conducted by the National Police Air Service.
Working alongside the Police Search Adviser a plan was agreed to search areas in the immediate vicinity of where the 999 calls were made. As the ground search of heavily overgrown and wooded areas progressed, the Police received an update that the missing person had turned up, safe and well, at approximately 08.30hrs outside of the search areas. At this point the search groups made up of volunteers from North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and our Team, and a Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England team, returned to control and stood down.
A good result for all concerned.
The incident involved 15 Team members for 5 hours and 20 minutes.
