Incident Type: Rescue
The North East Ambulance Service activated the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves for an injured mountain biker in Kielder Forest. A Community Paramedic and double crewed Ambulance had already been dispatched and the two Teams immediately called out their volunteer members and deployed three 4×4 response vehicles on blue lights. The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was also requested.
PhoneFind/SARLOC technology was used by our duty controller to confirm the exact location near to Kielder Water, which was inaccessible to an Ambulance.
The first Mountain Rescue response vehicle along with three members arrived on scene just after GNASS, at which point it was confirmed the injured mountain biker was receiving treatment in the Ambulance on a forest track. Forestry England had been alerted to the incident and thankfully one of their 4x4s had been able to assist in extricating the injured party.
A great multiagency team effort by all involved.
We wish the mountain biker well for a full and swift recovery.
The incident involved 23 Team members for 2 hours 32 minutes.
