Kielder Forest

Incident Type: Rescue

On Wednesday afternoon ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were activated by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with the potential evacuation of an injured mountain biker in Kielder Forest.

Initial reports suggested the casualty had sustained a suspected upper body injury. While our duty controllers gathered further information and assessed access to the scene, volunteers from across Northumberland began deploying in our response vehicles. At the same time, a local team member was able to provide valuable information confirming that vehicle access to the casualty’s location was possible.

Shortly afterwards, the attending NEAS Community Paramedic reached the casualty and confirmed that Mountain Rescue assistance was no longer required. With the incident safely managed by ambulance colleagues, all of our volunteers were stood down and returned home.

We hope the casualty makes a full and speedy recovery.

The incident involved 11 Team members for 1 hour, with 15 members on standby.
