Incident Type: Rescue
Two Penrith Mountain Rescue Team members happened to be in the right place at the right time yesterday. They came across a cyclist in Kielder Forest who had come off their bike sustaining several injuries.
A 999 call was made to Northumbria Police who then alerted North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves.
The first members at the north dam car park were transported to the incident site in one of our 4×4 response vehicles. The casualty was then assessed and stabilised by two Remote Rescue Medical Technicians, before one of our Team Paramedics arrived on scene along with other members to assist.
Following treatment the injured cyclist was transported to the car park and at shortly after 15.30hrs was transferred to the waiting ambulance for the onward journey to hospital.
We would like to wish the injured cyclist and her partner well and thank the two Penrith Mountain Rescue Team members who stayed throughout and were most helpful. Forestry England also helped to access the incident site and kindly transported the bikes back to Kielder village.
The incident involved 16 team members for 4 hours 45 minutes.
