A cyclist sustained a lower leg injury when they came off their bike in the Kielder area. Due to the difficult to access location on a trail in the forest near to Kielder Castle, the North East Ambulance Service requested Mountain Rescue’s assistance.

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves swiftly despatched two vehicles, one travelling from Rothbury and one from West Denton. Team members were also called out to travel to the RVP on the edge of Kielder village.

Once the casualty had been treated and stabilised by the NEAS Paramedic, Team members loaded the injured cyclist onto our Titan stretcher with a wheel attached. The cyclist was then stretchered to the crewed Ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

We hope the cyclist makes a full and swift recovery and is back out enjoying the trails around Kielder very soon.

The incident involved 12 Team members for 2 hours 5 minutes.
