Kielder

On Saturday afternoon, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were called out by Northumbria Police to search for a high risk missing person at the north end of Kielder reservoir, where their car had been located.

Search routes were drawn up, taking into careful consideration the massive devastation the forest experienced following Storm Arwen. Safety was paramount for our Team members. Search groups were then deployed to search in the immediate vicinity of the car and the prioritised routes. The Teams also utilised a Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England handler and their search dog.

After several hours in heavy drizzle, once the routes and main areas were searched, the Teams stood down, with a view to returning the next day to continue in daylight. As plans were being made for the following day, an update was received from the Police to say the missing person had been found safe and well outside of the area searched. A great outcome for all concerned.

The incident involved 19 Team members for 7 hours 10 minutes.
