Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by Police Scotland at 14.45hrs for a missing mountain biker in Newcastleton and Kielder Forest area. The mountain biker was last seen near the border with England.
With the potential for a large scale search either side of the border, TVMRT altered North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves. While TVMRT deployed to a RVP near Newcastleton, our members, Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England and vehicles were deployed to Kielder Castle. On arrival at the respective RVPs, the intention was to swiftly search the marked single track mountain biking routes and the drivable tracks.
Thankfully, not long after members and Team vehicles arrived at Kielder Castle, the missing mountain biking was located safe and well by Police Scotland on a road having made their way out of the forest. A positive outcome for all concerned and a great example of how neighbouring MRTs can mobilise in large numbers of volunteers to improve the chances of a successful outcome on complex incidents.
Moffat Mountain Rescue Team and Police Scotland (Strathclyde) Mountain Rescue Teams were also placed on standby in case the incident became protracted.
The incident involved 22 Team members for 3 hours.
