Incident Type: Search/ location assist

On Tuesday evening, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were alerted by Northumbria Police about a group of missing walkers, lost in the Kielder area. Initial info pointed to a location near Kielder Viaduct, but poor signal and shifting details made pinpointing them difficult.

A police unit was dispatched, and Team members were deployed to support as it became clear the group had moved from the original location. After several broken calls and challenging comms, a more accurate position near Matthews Linn was confirmed—around 2.5 km from where they’d started.

At 23:54, the group—now three walkers and a dog—were located safe and well by police. Team members were stood down shortly after. The group did right thing in contacting the Police before things got too challenging.

Five volunteers responded, with the incident lasting 1.5 hours. Thanks to everyone involved—especially those who gave up some sleep to ensure a safe outcome.
