In the early hours of Thursday morning, Northumbria Police requested Mountain Rescue’s support in the search for a missing female from Jarrow. A search strategy and plan was drawn up between the Police Search Adviser and our Mountain Rescue search managers, before North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were deployed.

During the night and into the morning, search groups and Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England teams were tasked to search open areas and woodland in and around Jarrow. Additional volunteers were also drafted in from Teesdale and Weardale Search and Mountain Rescue Team later in the morning.

Sadly a body believed to be that of the missing person was located by one of the search groups. The family has been informed and they are being supported by Police officers. Our thoughts go out to the missing person’s family and friends at this devastating time.

The incident involved 10 Team members for 5 hours 45 minutes overnight and 13 members for 4 hours 45 minutes during the day.
