Incident Type: Rescue

On Sunday, ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team were requested by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with an incident involving a fallen horse rider in Hulne Park, Alnwick.

The rider had been injured following a fall at a jump, with concerns over serious injuries. Our Duty Controller coordinated the initial response, with team vehicles and personnel deploying promptly alongside colleagues from the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team.

As our first vehicle was en route on blue lights, we were updated that ambulance crews had successfully reached the scene and were managing the casualty. With this in mind, additional team resources were stood down. Given its proximity, one of our vehicles continued to the scene in case further assistance was required, but this was ultimately not needed.

The NEAS Hazardous Area Response Team also deployed with specialist capability to support the incident.

Although we were not required on scene, this highlights the importance of a coordinated multi-agency response, ensuring the right resources are available quickly when incidents occur in more remote or challenging locations.

We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.

The incident involved 11 Team members for 1 hour 35 minutes. A further 11 members were on standby until the incident concluded.
