Northumbria Police called out North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves to assist in a search for a high risk missing person in the Houghton-le-Spring area.
Working in conjunction with the Police Search Adviser, and informed by missing person behaviour statistics and background information gathered by the Police, an agreed search strategy and plan was agreed. Mountain Rescue search groups, and a Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England team, were deployed to search the prioritised areas in and around a nearby nature reserve.
Tragically a body was located by one of the search groups late into the evening. This is an incredibly sad outcome and certainly not the one we had hoped for. Our thoughts go out to the missing person’s family and friends at this devastating time.
The incident involved 22 Team members for 11 hours.
