High Spen

On Boxing Day Northumbria Police requested Mountain Rescue’s assistance for a male who was initially reported missing in Cumbria before Christmas. Information received suggested he may be in the Northumbria Police area.

North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were tasked to search prioritised routes and areas near to Chopwell Woods and the village of High Spen for the high risk missing individual. With nothing found and Police investigations ongoing, our volunteer members stood down after a few hours of mainly searching in the dark. At this point Team members returned home to rejoin their families and friends for what remained of Boxing Day.

The incident involved 22 Team members and 1 search dog for 5 hours 30 minutes.
