A female in her mid-20s was reported missing in Hexham on Tuesday evening. She had last been seen earlier in the afternoon leaving her accommodation. As Northumbria Police grew increasingly concerned for her welfare, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were requested to assist.

Our duty controller liaised with the Police Search Adviser and a high level search strategy was agreed before the Teams were called out. Once at the RVP, Dukes House Outdoor Centre to south of Hexham, a more detailed search plan was drawn up informed in part by phone mast data. The initial plan was to search routes from the centre of the town to the south and the boundaries of, and paths through, the wooded areas.

As our volunteer members were being deployed from the RVP, an update was received from the Police. The female had thankfully been located, safe and well. A positive outcome for all concerned.

At this point the Teams were stood down and our blue light response vehicles headed back to their respective bases and members back home to their families.

The incident involved 26 members for 2 hours 35 minutes.
