Late on the afternoon of Saturday 21 May Northumbria Police contacted Mountain Rescue again to assist with a search for a missing male in his 60s. The male had not been seen since the previous Monday and had been reported missing on the Friday.
An initial search was conducted on Saturday evening and further searches were undertaken on Sunday in and around the Monkton area through dense woodland and thick undergrowth. During the extensive search one of our search groups sadly found a body early on Sunday afternoon. While formal identification was still to take place, the body was believed to be the missing person.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends at this very difficult time.
The incident involved 13 Team members for 7 hours 25 minutes on Saturday and 16 Team members for 7 hours 10 minutes on Sunday.
