On Saturday afternoon North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were requested by the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to assist with the evacuation of an injured person. The exact location of the casualty was not known at the time of the activation but they were believed to be on eastern edge of Haydon Bridge, down by the river.

Our Duty Controller sent a PhoneFind text to try to ascertain a more accurate location and deployed local Team members and two vehicles. Local members arrived on scene shortly after the Community Paramedic, who assessed and treated the casualty.

As soon as the first vehicle arrived on scene, a stretcher and vacuum mattress was dispatched to the scene. The evacuation then involved a short but awkward stretcher carry to nearest road where the casualty was transferred to a crewed ambulance.

The casualty was in good spirits and we hope they make a full and swift recovery.

The incident involved 9 Team members for 1 hour 30 minutes.
