Incident Type: Rescue

On Sunday afternoon, our volunteers were called out alongside North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team after a lone walker contacted Northumbria Police reporting a lower leg injury and that he had become lost while walking near Hadrian’s Wall.

Using mobile phone technology, our duty controller was able to quickly establish the walker’s location on steep ground below the Wall and gather further information about his situation. Team members were deployed from across Northumberland, with the first volunteer reaching the casualty shortly after 15.00hrs.

Once assessed, the walker was assisted across difficult terrain to one of our team vehicles before being transported safely back to his accommodation in Haltwhistle.

We wish the walker a speedy recovery and thank all of the volunteers from both teams who gave up their Sunday afternoon to help.

The incident involved 6 Team members for 3 hours and 33 minutes with a further 18 members remained on standby throughout the incident.
