Incident Type: Rescue

On Monday afternoon a women fell and sustained a lower leg injury whilst walking along Hadrian’s Wall. The North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust activated North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves to assist.

The Teams were immediately deployed with local members heading directly to the casualty site above Peel Crag. Once on scene the casualty was assessed by a Paramedic and their injury stabilised. As soon as additional members and specialist rescue equipment arrived, the casualty was packaged on a stretcher. A relatively short but awkward evacuation (avoiding the steeper sections of ground) down to the double crewed ambulance on the access track then ensued.

By shortly after 18.00hrs the injured walker was handed over to the Ambulance crew for onward transport to hospital. We wish the walker well for a full and swift outcome.

The incident involved 25 Team members for 3 hours 30 minutes.
