Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) were called to a moorland wildfire in the area of Blackburn Common and Burdonside, north of Greenhaugh on Wednesday afternoon. NFRS requested drone and logistical support from North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves.
Two emergency response vehicles were deployed and a drone team to the designated RVP near to Gibshiel. The drone footage was invaluable to the fire crews on the ground and the information relayed back to Fire Incident Commander assisted with deploying resources to different parts of the common.
Thankfully through the collective effort of the dedicated fire crews from across Northumberland and local farmers a much worse fire was prevented and by Thursday morning the fire was no longer burning.
The incident involved 6 Team members for 7 hours.
