A high risk female was reported missing from home in Gateshead in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Northumbria Police had conducted initial searches close to the female’s home before Mountain Rescue’s assistance was requested to search open ground with heavy undergrowth and steeply, wooded areas down towards the River Tyne. Volunteer members from North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were deployed in small groups to search prioritised routes and areas, which had been agreed with the Police Search Adviser. The MRTs were assisted by two Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England teams.
With limited new information and as our prioritised search routes and areas were being completed, the female turned up safe and well. A good outcome for all concerned.
The incident involved 18 Team members for 6 hours 20 minutes.
