Incident Type: Alert
At just after 2.00pm on Saturday, Northumbria Police requested support from ourselves and North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team following a 999 call from a woman reporting her husband had fallen. Before location details could be obtained, the call dropped out. Before alerting the teams, the Police sent a PhoneFind text to the caller’s phone to try to establish a location.
With no further contact possible, a review of the recent Mountain Rescue incident logs, shared our the SARCALL system, quickly established that the same mobile number had been used in an incident logged earlier by Cumbria Police and Penrith Mountain Rescue Team.
The walking party was confirmed to be at Greg’s Hut on Cross Fell, outside of our operational area, and Penrith MRT had deployed. At that point, our resources were stood down, and Northumbria Police contacted Cumbria Police for confirmation that all was good.
This incident highlights the importance of information sharing and coordination across Police forces and Mountain Rescue teams to ensure the right resources are deployed to where they are needed most.
The incident involved 4 Team members for 25 minutes.
