Incident Type: Rescue
The North East Ambulance Service alerted Mountain Rescue for a woman with a lower leg injury at Crammel Linn. Knowing the area well from previous incidents meant there was a high likelihood that our specialist resources would be required.
Volunteer members from the North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and our Team were swiftly called out and three blue light response vehicles deployed. While resources were travelling, the Mountain Rescue command was able to confirm the exact location of the injured woman at the foot of the steep and slippery descent to the waterfall, approximately 100m downstream of the Linn itself.
With the incident being at one of the farthest outreaches of our operational area, it took 45 minutes before the first Mountain Rescue resources arrived on scene. While the NEAS Community Paramedic provided care to the woman, a rope rescue system was rigged to safeguard the stretcher as our members carried it up the steep hill towards the road. The evacuation to the road took approximately 40 minutes where upon the woman was handed over to a double crewed ambulance for onward transport to hospital.
All that remained was for Team members to de-rig the equipment, repack the vehicles and get out of the midges!!
We would like to wish the injured woman well for a full and swift recovery.
The incident 14 Team members for 4 hours 20 minutes.
