Yesterday morning Northumbria Police’s Silver Commander requested Mountain Rescue’s support in a search for vulnerable male in his 70s. The male had been reported missing from home in Cramlington.
North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team and ourselves were immediately put on standby, while one of our search managers liaised with the Police. Whilst initial information was limited, the male was known to regularly walk from his home. These routes provided the basis of the search strategy and plan agreed with the Police Search Adviser.
As our search groups and Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England teams completed the initial prioritised routes and areas, and other groups were being deployed, information from the Police indicated the male may have been located outside of the search area. Thankfully through the Police investigation, the local searches and the public’s response to social media it was confirmed the missing male had been found safe.
At this point all of our resources required to the RVP and stood down. A very positive and swift outcome for all concerned.
The incident involved 18 Team members for 6 hours 30 minutes.
